It seems like every single day new measures are being taken to ‘flatten the curve’ in regards to COVID-19. Today I am announcing the closure of my business for the time being so that I can play my part in this as well.
With the government of Alberta’s recent declaration of naming this a Public Health Emergency, as well as all Alberta massage associations suggesting to us practitioners that we immediately cease taking appointments for at least a couple of weeks time; I have decided to do just this.
All clients booked from now until the end of the month will be notified personally by myself, and the scheduling system will be closed for the time being. Clients with appointments into April will simply get a cancellation notification email.
This decision has been difficult to make because like so many other Albertans this business is also my livelihood. The decision has in part been delayed in recent days by anxiety on what I will do without income and the ability to pay bills. I find a little bit of solace in the fact that so many other Albertans / Canadians are in a similar boat. But know that we will be able to alleviate this anxiety by not being divisive and supporting one another.
The reality is that this is a pretty black and white situation. Either everyone is doing their part to deal with this pandemic, or some people are not and unintended consequences will happen as a result. Other people may suffer needlessly… Other people such as infants and seniors, or the immunocompromised. In short: the vulnerable.
I take my job seriously and get much joy from helping people solve their body aches, pain, and dysfunction. The fact of the matter is that my business although only being one-on-one, flies in the face of the Chief Medical Officer of Alberta’s social distancing suggestions. While I have the utmost care and attention to detail with providing fresh and clean products with regards to my linens, massage table, and face cradle. As well as my own ability for cleanliness and good hygiene; there are never any guarantees with me going in and out of peoples homes. Homes where the environment is simply out of my control, and by proxy out of the control of whatever client comes after that previous one.
Put plainly: as this pandemic and health emergency continues to change and grow, I would be adding to the risk of others despite my best efforts. So again, with a heavy heart I have decided to close my business for the time being.
If anyone needs any home care recommendation they can contact me via email (info@precisiontherapeutics.ca) or via phone / text (780-233-4397), and I will try to make suggestions. We will get through these uncertain times by supporting each other as best we can. Until that finish line there is nothing to do but play it day by day, week by week, and month by month.
Stay safe out there my friends.
